One of my favorite things about coming home from a trip is opening the mail. Ask Josh…I LOVE checking the mail…every day. After all, there is always a chance that something amazingly exciting just arrived! Needless to say, I was very excited to go through our (huge) pile of mail when we got back from Costa Rica. I was not disappointed, let me tell you.

There were plenty of exciting things, but the most exciting of all was a package from one of our wedding couples last year. Ian & Caitlin were married at the Mountain Meadow Inn last summer. These two are super creative and artsy – they designed their invitations, programs, and all their wedding decor (including the awesome cloth flowers).

I will say, though, that they really outdid themselves with this thank you gift. SO COOL!!

I&C – we just wanted to say…thank you for the thank you! You guys are awesome, and we were so happy to get to photograph with you.

Hoot! Hoot!

While Josh and I were down in Costa Rica photographing Reese & Tefy’s wedding, we were able to reconnect with some of Josh’s college friends who are in language school in San Jose. The Grahams are working in Latin America with an organization called EMI (Engineering Ministries International), and will be in Costa Rica for several years. We ended up spending some time with them the day after the wedding, and also a few days at the end of our trip. It was such a blast to spend time with them and hang out with their kiddos! Long story short, we ended up going out one of those days to do some family photos, and thought we’d share some with you all on here!

After a full day of travel, mixed up flights, an overnight, another flight, and  a personal tour of San Jose (thanks Tatiana!!), we arrived at the sight of our first bridal session of 2012. Combine a beautiful bride, a stunning dress, an incredible house and gardens, and sunny Costa Rica…what can be better? We’ve been looking forward to this wedding for quite awhile, and meeting up with Tefy for her Bridal session was the perfect start to our weekend of photography.

Tefy is a vibrant, caring, and beautiful woman. Our first impression of her was as she walked into the room for her bridal session, and I can honestly say she almost took my breath away with how stunning she looked! I know you will be captivated by lovely Tefy as well…enjoy, and keep your eye out for a highlight of Reese & Tefy’s wedding very soon!

We love engagement sessions. It is just fun to hang out, take some pictures, and start getting to know our couples! On a wedding day, things are flying by so fast, and it can be quite the whirlwind. Super fun, but also fast paced. The engagement sessions are wonderful because they are just laid back and personal with no agenda and no timeline. Ideal, right?

Mike & Hayley drove over from Missoula on Monday for their session, and we had a blast getting to know them a bit – the pictures turned out great as well! We’re really looking forward to the road ahead working with these two and photographing their wedding in a few months. Enjoy!

Back in January, our friends Karin & Sari from Eskay Bridal had their grand opening, and we put up a little display and gave away a bridal session and an engagement session. Stella won the engagement session, so this afternoon we headed out to one of our favorite spots to get some pictures – right after we met at the best cafe ever for a coffee and some treats. The light was incredible and we had a great time with these two! They are relaxed, and just seem to know how to have fun – always a good start when getting married!

We were honored this past week to be involved in a phenomenal new bridal event in town (Put on by Plume Bridal & Mountain 107.7). It has been a wild ride from the initial planning, to the poster photo shoot, to the craziness of the event set up, but in the end everything came together beautifully! The event featured only one of each category of wedding vendor, and had an evening cocktail party feel. The main highlight of the evening was the Plume Bridal runway show. Leigh included some stunning wedding and bridesmaid gowns, and the models were fabulous! Josh and I wanted to give everyone a preview of a few of our favorites from the evening – let us know what you think!

There are so many people who were pivotal in putting this event together that deserve a huge thanks, but we want to especially send kudos to Daisy from Mountain 107.7, and Leigh from Plume – your vision for this coupled with the hard work you put in is what made this all come together, and we are so thankful for you! You both did an incredible job – we’ve loved working with you. Unveiled turned out to be a very successful event, and we’re looking forward to what it will become in future years!

This post is a bit out of the ordinary. Josh and I almost always photograph all of our shoots together as a team, but this portrait session I struck out on my own. It was a little nerve wracking to be handling all the lighting, posing, and technical aspects all on my own (it’s much more comfortable having Josh and his 13 years of experience around). This shoot made me realize, however, how much I have grown and learned in my photography skills over the past several years – and also how much more there always is to learn!

Julie is a very good friend of mine, and I don’t know many women who are quite a striking as she is. She is full of life, quick to smile, and has a killer penchant for classy dressing (as you’ll see). I couldn’t have asked for a better portrait client, and loved photographing with Julie. Hanging out is even more fun with a camera in hand!

Julie – You were beautiful and did and amazing modeling job . Enjoy!

We are in a whirlwind of preparations for several (very cool) bridal events this month, but I wanted to take a minute to put up another blog for everyone! This post takes us back to fall, and the very last day of colorful leaves. We had such an awesome time hanging out with Ryan, (and dragging him all over the valley) for his photos. You don’t get much more laid back or “Montana” than this guy, as you can see from his easy smile and fishing pole…

Ryan, we wish you all the best in your senior year and in the many years to come! Enjoy!

As a photographer, it is so easy to get into a rut of shooting things the way that I always shoot things. For this reason, I love hanging out and shooting with other photogs, especially Chris & Jeremiah, (who both photographed at Kathy’s & my wedding). Jeremiah & I rode up together to Helena where Erin did Ashley’s makeup and then we were off to the woods where we just couldn’t get enough time before the sun went down (which was early being only 4 days from the shortest day of the year). We finally ended up in the studio shooting against a grey seamless backdrop using tricks learned from Zach Arias to turn the backdrop white. Thanks Chris for inviting me up for the day. As we are fast approaching Christmas, Josh and I have been thinking about how life just seems to propel forward, and very rarely slows down. No matter what your vocation or stage in life, I think relaxing and slowing down has to be intentional or it never happens. We are blessed to have our business and get to work together, and we love having the flexibility that we do, but many times I think it ends up adding to the busyness instead of taking away from it. However, no matter how busy things get, neither of us would trade our job in for anything else.

Even though we are full tilt into our Montana winter, we still have several beautiful weddings to finish up for the summer and fall. So take a break from the falling snow to look at this August wedding in West Yellowstone at the old Train Depot! Tyler and Shana did most of their decorating and planning themselves, and had some phenomenal ideas (so to our 2012 brides – listen up!). Their primary table decorations were freeze-dried hops, which turned out to be stunning against the red tablecloths and wooden accents. They went with the classic cupcake idea for dessert, but specifically made plenty of Gluten Free ones and tagged them with adorable little “gf” signs – something we thought to be very thoughtful as gluten free is becoming increasingly important these days. In true Montana style they made ample amounts of huckleberry vodka to use in drinks for their guests – a little extra work, but worth it! And last but not least, they laid out tables and chairs in such a way that they could use the same set up for both the wedding and reception. In many cases this is not possible, but if you choose a venue which will work for it, it can be a very cool touch! The lofty ceilings and striking central fireplace at the Train Depot made it a perfect spot for such a setup as you’ll see.
